A FREE Lead Magnet – How It Helps Reach More Customers

A free lead magnet is a great way to grow your email list, build connections, and ultimately get more sales.
A lead magnet is a free item or service given away in exchange for a contact’s name and email address. Why do we need one?
Here’s three reasons to use a free lead magnet in your business:
1. Is Social Media Dying Out?
On Monday 31st October (2022), Instagram had several glitches which led to a loss in a significant number of followers. User’s accounts were also suspended for no apparent reason, and some were unable to open the IG app. Ironic that this happened on Halloween…right?
Though it was fixed within 24 hours. I think it taught us all a lesson in that we cannot rely on social media platforms for various reasons. And how free lead magnets are an antidote to this, here’s why:
- We don’t own the data. If social media were to shut down suddenly, we’d lose a ton of content, our customer database, and metrics.
- There’s a huge focus on video content and influencers on Instagram. This is causing a real dip in the algorithm right. Plus, making it very hard to get our content seen.
- More and more people are opting out of social media. Either because it no longer aligns with their values, or because they’re just finding social media a frustrating place to be right now (which I totally get).
2. Outdated Newsletter?
With the amount of content that we have available online, it’s becoming increasingly harder to entice people to sign-up to newsletters. Not only that but consumers are more reluctant than ever to share their email address.
Inviting people to sign-up to your newsletter in exchange for a freebie (lead magnet) is much more appealing. Not only have you earned a potential new client, but what this also tells us is that what you have offered (your freebie) is exactly what they need. This in turn helps you to understand your ideal client better, plus gives you an opportunity to upsell something else to them. This is the power of a free lead magnet.
3. Relationship Building Courtesy of a Free Lead Magnet
A free lead magnet can serve as a great ‘try before you buy’ type strategy. We must be mindful that not everyone is ready to buy from us. So, it helps to provide a little something for free for them to try out first.
A lead magnet can be used to move someone from a lurker to someone that begins to understand the value you provide and how you might be able to help solve their problem.
Free lead magnets also help provide an opportunity to answer questions that your clients and audience often ask you. Think of the questions you are frequently asked and try to find the ‘one thing’ that really helps your audience.
